Let's Go Pens!
About a month ago, we were invited to create a cake for the Playroom Project, part of the Mario Lemieux Foundation. The Playroom Project helps families that are dealing with a hospital stay by providing safe, creative, and fun playrooms for kids to relax in - whether they are a patient or visiting a family member.
Of course, Duff jumped at the chance to give back to such a wonderful cause, especially since it meant he could meet one of - if not THE - greatest hockey player of all time! The event was a huge success. Many of the decorators (and even me!) created several small cakes to be auctioned off in the silent auction...and Duff put together a huge monstrosity of a cake to surprise Mario's wife, Nathalie, as the event was the 10th anniversary of the Playroom Project. These gorgeous photos of the event were very generously provided by Joanne Bartone...lots more are on her blog at www.joannebartoneblog.com.

Duff and Mr. Lemieux! (Duff would like to point this photo out to the UMBC ice hockey team and has this to say: "Yeah, that's RIGHT.")
We had such a wonderful time in Pittsburgh - especially since, by the grace of the
hockey gods, there happened to be a Stanley Cup Playoff game the night of the fundraiser, and we were very blessed to be given tickets. The Pittsburgh Penguins demolished the Carolina Hurricanes and the game was amazing. I am now a Pens fan for life and must say that three weeks later, watching them win the Stanley Cup on TV was pretty much the greatest thing ever. Let's Go Pens!Shrimp Heads, Shrimp Heads...roly poly Shrimp Heads

Even though Ace of Cakes is knee-deep in summer reruns, there is a brand new show premiering this weekend and the first episode will feature Duff. It's called The Best Thing I Ever Ate, and interviews Food Network folks talking about, well, the best thing they ever ate. And where you can get it. Tune in this Sunday at 10:00 PM to hear all about Duff's love of Shrimp Heads. Seriously.
CCC Swag: Now available in Baltimore's Inner HarborHave you been aching to get your hands on a Charm City Cakes t-shirt, but have a strange allergy to internet shopping? Fear no more! We are thrilled that our merch is now available - live and in person - at Best of Baltimore, a great little shop located in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The store is located in the Light Street Pavilion, at 301 S. Light Street. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am-9pm and Sunday 12pm-6pm. You can reach the store at 410-727-4551 if you have any questions. Right now they have T-shirts, Aprons, and Caps, but we will be adding more stuff soon.

He's been working for CCC since before the bakery, back when it was just two of them in Duff's apartment.
