Happy Friday, Kiddies!
It's snowing here in Baltimore, which is perfect, as Duff and the gang are suiting up for this weekend's big Birthday Bash at Wisp Resort. It's going to be a sublime weekend for ski and snowboard fun!
In the meantime, I just had to share some photos of a cake we did a couple weeks back. When DonnaMarie and Ricky came to see us and told us their cake idea, we knew they were kindred spirits.
They are both really into Ghostbusters.
Like, really into it.
Obsessed on a level that we can understand (though with us it's Star Wars and/or Jaws).
They wanted to incorporate their shared love of the movie into their wedding cake. Their idea? To replicate the final scene of the movie, when the guys are battling the Stay Puft Marshmallow man from atop an NYC skyscraper, only with the bride and groom doing the proton pack zapping. Can we do that?
Um, YES? YES WE CAN.
So we met with the happy couple (twice, actually!) and along with LOTS of reference photos, they even provided us with a DVD of the movie so that we could be sure to get every detail just right. Here's a bit of trivia for you: In the final scene, Dana's apartment building actually exists at 55 Central Park West in New York City. But the building is actually only 20 stories high. For the film, matte paintings and models were used to make the building look bigger and with more floors. According to the commentary on the DVD, the top of the building is actually modeled after the top of the Continental Life Building in St. Louis, MO. We HAD to get this right. Research mode! Lots of Google image searches and watching of the movie ensued.
The end result? If I do say so myself, not bad. Not bad at all. Geof and pretty much all the decorators had a hand in this project.
Here is the cake here at the bakery, before it left for the reception in NY:
Here are shots from the reception, taken by their fab photographer, Angela Cappetta.
The happy and gorgeous couple, ready to take the cake on....
...and our favorite shot, showing off the lights!
DonnaMarie says they can't wait to order their next cake, which will be an homage to Alien. I don't know what scene they'll want to do, but we can only hope....
Have a great weekend everyone!
